toast shop & cafe

As the first collaboration with renowned Amsterdam toast shop and cafe - CHUN, the new outlet is situated in a monument building in the heart of Amsterdam with a decorative 19-ceuntry facade. We have designed a new interior language for the brand that embrace warmness with a range of tactile materials and design details to highlight the brand's energetic hospitality.

The cafe is a connection of space across 3 levels, with seating areas on upper and lower level and the bar in the entry level. The existing staircase is cladded with warm oak and vertical planes are inserted as a penetration across the levels. The timber element extends to the wall surface and also the partition design. With carefully proportioned batten details and Japanese washi panels.

The barista bar is composed with stone and refined metal details. It is designed as a minimal stage for the barista where actions can be viewed direction from shopfront and the upper level.

A variety of seating arrangement is designed to cater for different dining experience. Bench seating composed in oak profile and fabrics from Kvadrat, a leaning bench in solid timber, and an array of the Ishinomaki Laboratory’s Tripodal Stools, which are also designed by Studio Adjective. All accompanied by light fixtures from Karimoku Case and Louis Poulsen.
